# Share this book.

The text and diagrams of Knowware are open. You can read, share and teach with them for free. The official editions, and anything commercial, are separate.

## What you can do, free

The chapters, front and back matter and the diagrams are licensed under [Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/) (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). In plain words, for non-commercial purposes and with credit, you may:

-   read it, link to it, and send a chapter to anyone;
-   quote it and reproduce it in your own non-commercial work;
-   assign it in a class, put it on a reading list or course reserve, and lend it;
-   archive it and mirror it, in a library, a repository or a preservation system;
- translate it, adapt it, remix the diagrams, and build on it, as long as what you make is shared under the same license.

The source text, diagrams and their data are in the open repository: [github.com/fromknowware/systems-intelligence](https://github.com/fromknowware/systems-intelligence). The code in it is MIT licensed.

## What needs a conversation

Selling the book, or putting it inside something you sell (a paid course, a paywalled collection, a product, an ad-supported copy) needs a separate agreement. Write to [hello@knowware.systems](mailto:hello@knowware.systems).

## Libraries and universities

Teaching, course reserves, lending, cataloguing and archiving the open text need no permission and no fee. What you can buy is the book as a finished object: the official print and digital editions, with a stable edition and citation, updates, and formats made for accessibility. Institutional licenses for those editions are being set up. If your library or department wants to be first, or needs something particular, tell us at [hello@knowware.systems](mailto:hello@knowware.systems).

## AI, search and training

The public pages, the free chapter previews, the stories and the [agents page](/agents) are open to crawlers, search engines and AI systems, training included, with credit and a link where you can give them. That is an additional permission from the author, beyond the license. The full chapters sit behind the reader gate and are not for crawlers.

Training a commercial model on the full text needs a written agreement. Training or fine-tuning on it for non-commercial research is welcome on the license's terms: credit, non-commercial, share-alike. Write to [hello@knowware.systems](mailto:hello@knowware.systems).

The same terms in machine-readable form: [robots.txt](/robots.txt) and a [text-and-data-mining file](/.well-known/tdmrep.json) that reserves only the full chapters. The text is also public in the open repository, and the law differs by country, so these are statements of terms, not a lock.

## How to credit it

Copy this, or cite it from [the citation file](https://github.com/fromknowware/systems-intelligence/blob/main/CITATION.cff):

Khayyam Wakil, "Knowware: Systems of Intelligence" (Knowware Institute, 2026), knowware.systems. Licensed CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.

If you changed it, say so. If you reuse a passage from one of the 81 voices, keep its note that it is synthesized, so nobody mistakes it for a quote.

## What the license does not cover

- **The people behind the voices.** Each voice is synthesized by the author from a named person's published work. It is not a quote. This license covers the author's own writing only, and gives no rights in anyone's name, voice or likeness. People named can ask for a correction or removal at [/corrections](/corrections).
- **The name, cover and logos**, and the design and typesetting of the official editions.
-   **Third-party material**, listed in the repository's [NOTICE](https://github.com/fromknowware/systems-intelligence/blob/main/NOTICE.md).

## Stories and this site

The [stories](/stories) and their feed are a separate work, licensed [CC BY 4.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). The site's code is built with open tools and has no tracking; see the [colophon](/colophon).

This page explains the license in plain words. The license text itself governs: [deed](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/) and [legal code](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/legalcode).
